Why Choose the Leh to Lamayuru & Nubra Valley Cycling Tour?

The Leh to Lamayuru & Nubra Valley Cycling Tour is one of India’s most iconic high-altitude cycling adventures, taking riders across some of the world’s highest motorable roads and spectacular high-altitude landscapes. Covering approximately 408 kilometres over 8 days, this fully supported expedition combines a scenic ride through the Indus Valley to the ancient villages of Alchi and the “Moonland” of Lamayuru with a demanding climb over Khardung La (5,359m) into the legendary sand dunes and glacial landscapes of Nubra Valley.

More than just a cycling expedition, this journey is an immersion into the ancient Buddhist culture and stark natural beauty of Ladakh. Riders pass centuries-old monasteries, remote Himalayan villages, and some of the highest motorable passes in the world, all while supported by experienced local guides, a dedicated support vehicle, mechanical assistance, carefully planned acclimatization, comfortable accommodation, and nutritious meals throughout.

Journey Overview

After arriving and settling into the high desert altitude of Ladakh, riders set out along the Indus Valley toward Alchi, home to some of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in the region, before continuing on to the ancient monastery town of Lamayuru — known as “Moonland” for its otherworldly eroded rock formations. From Lamayuru, the route retraces the Indus Valley back to Leh, allowing a night to recover before the expedition’s biggest test.

The route then turns north to face Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world at 5,359 metres, continuing on to Khardung Village before descending further into the dramatic Nubra Valley, where the Himalayas give way to sweeping sand dunes, glacial rivers, and Bactrian camels — a landscape unlike anywhere else on the route. The journey concludes with a long ride from Hunder back to Leh over Khardung La, completing the loop before departure.
